Surgery International to host free ‘Sustainability in Surgery’ webinar

Global news hub Surgery International will host a free-to-attend educational webinar that will delve into the future of surgery and consider its profound impact on our planet.

The Sustainability in Surgery webinar is part of the Talk Surgery series and will take place on Thursday, 14 March, at 19:00 (GMT).

The webinar is being hosted in collaboration with The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, JAV Medical, and Orascoptic.

Continuing Surgery International’s commitment to exploring the multifaceted realms of surgery, this event will shine a spotlight on the pivotal role sustainable practices play in shaping the field’s trajectory.

Distinguished surgeons and leading authorities will consider transformative initiatives and discuss how the medical community can embrace environmentally conscious practices to curtail waste and mitigate ecological footprints.

Hosted by Tim Lane, consultant urological surgeon and robotic surgeon at Lister Hospital, Stevenage, UK, the event’s stellar line-up of speakers includes:

  • Professor Shafi Ahmed, the world’s most-watched surgeon, known for his pioneering work in medical education and digital healthcare.
    • Lucinda Cruddas, a research fellow at the University College London. Lucinda is also a vascular registrar, a Royal College of Surgeons of England Sustainability Champion and has a special interest in theatre sustainability.
    • Aneel Bhangu, Professor of Global Surgery and a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon dedicated to improving surgical care and outcomes globally. His research focuses on developing sustainable solutions to address surgical disparities.
    • Addie MacGregor, sustainability manager at the Association of British HealthTech Industries, where she leads initiatives to promote environmental stewardship and corporate social responsibility within the healthcare industry. She collaborates with stakeholders to develop and implement sustainable practices that benefit the industry and the environment.
    • Ingo Aicher, MD of JAV Medical, a leading medical technology company specialising in innovative healthcare solutions. Under his leadership, JAV Medical has established itself as a critical player in the medical device industry, delivering cutting-edge products and technologies to improve patient care worldwide.
