The Vitamin Shoppe launches telehealth platform for GLP-1 access

New Jersey-based nutritional supplements supplier The Vitamin Shoppe announced its launching of Whole Health Rx, a telehealth service that will connect users with providers to help them access GLP-1 medications for weight management.

GLP-1s, or glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, are a class of medications used to treat type 2 diabetes but have recently become more popular for managing chronic weight conditions.

The Vitamin Shoppe’s platform will allow users to obtain online medical assessments and access GLP-1s, such as Ozempic, Rybelsus, Mounjaro, and versions of tripeptide and semaglutide. The platform will also offer nutritional support, educational resources and guidance on lifestyle practices.

Whole Health Rx is powered by WellSync, a company that customizes virtual care platforms to a company’s needs.

“By leveraging our extensive network of vetted clinician and pharmacy partners, we ensure a reliable supply of GLP-1 medications, even amid potential shortages. This collaboration not only maximizes patient and provider choice but also reinforces our shared mission to offer accessible, personalized care,” Clint House, CEO of WellSync, said in a statement.

THE LARGER TREND

Numerous retail giants have added GLP-1-focused services to their offerings this year.

Digital weight loss company Noom announced its commercial business, Noom for Work, would partner with Liviniti, a national pharmacy benefit manager, to offer plan sponsors and their employees a digital GLP-1 Companion for chronic weight conditions.

Food and nutrition tracking app MyFitnessPal announced the launch of its GLP-1 Nutrition Plan, a set of tools and content to support members taking GLP-1s. The plan includes exercise videos, medication tracking, a free recipe collection, an in-app nutrition plan, and community forums for members to communicate with other members and share their experiences.

Weight health company WeightWatchers disclosed a partnership with Personify Health to allow employers using Personify to offer WeightWatchers for Business solutions to their employees.

WeightWatchers for Business provides programs tailored for individuals with diabetes or those on GLP-1 medications. The company also offers virtual clinical care and medication management, community forums, coaching support, and health data and analytics.
