Paxman is set to support an educational Symposium, during EONS17 at ESMO Congress 2024, which includes the presentation of significant data to inform clinical practice, ensure the best possible patient outcomes with scalp cooling, and better understand the patient perspective of this important means of side-effect management.
The Paxman-sponsored EONS17 symposium at the ESMO Congress 2024, ‘Achieving successful scalp cooling – the importance of nursing in chemotherapy side effect management’ will be hosted in the Segovia Auditorium – Hall 7 at 10:15 am on Sunday 15th September.
Guest speakers Prof. Annie Young, Dr. Corina van den Hurk, along with nurse experts Aisling Burke and Laura Marqués Jiménez, will share knowledge and exchange expertise and proficiency in scalp cooling practice.
In addition, former breast cancer patient Begoña Parrado, Paxman’s Regional Manager for Spain, will deliver a presentation ‘The patient perspective: The power of scalp cooling’, highlighting her personal experience of the positive impact of the treatment, whilst navigating her breast cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment pathway.
Dr Corina van den Hurk, Senior researcher at Santeon Hospital has dedicated her career to the side-effects of cancer treatment, completing her PhD research on chemotherapy-induced alopecia and scalp cooling.
She has over 100 publications to her name and has also developed the HAIR-QoL measure to assist clinical decision-making for personalised psychological care in measuring the severity and impact of chemotherapy-induced alopecia.
Paxman will join oncology professionals and industry colleagues at this important event and will be exhibiting stand #313 in Hall 3.
The stand will host guest speakers Dr van den Hurk and colleagues at various times throughout the conference, giving registrants the opportunity to ask questions and engage in interactive scalp cooling cap fitting demonstrations.
Dr van den Hurk will be available to discuss the results of the recently published Dutch Scalp Cooling Registry: The Largest Real-World Multi-Centre Analysis of Determinants for Scalp Cooling Efficacy.
The data from this extensive registry of 7424 patients, spanning over 13 years (2006-2019), aims to provide valuable insights into the determinants that affect scalp cooling efficacy in the management of the important side effect of chemotherapy-induced alopecia.
To date, this is the best snapshot of scalp cooling in the real world, with a significant number of patients from the study having benefitted from the use of the Paxman Scalp Cooling System.
Maria Rosaria Esposito of l’Ospedale Oncologico Pascale di Napoli, will present the results of their recent Qualitative Study ‘Scalp Cooling in Breast Cancer: what are women’s experiences?’

In 2023, the Naples Oncology Hospital integrated the Paxman Scalp Cooling Program into their oncology practice to support their patients in the mitigation of chemotherapy-induced alopecia.
This study evaluates breast cancer patients’ experiences using scalp cooling for hair retention with a wide range of chemotherapy drug regimens.
